Mission - Better Safe than Sorry

Mission Commences.

Middle of the Salynean Forest, 8 security Battle Droids stand in a 360 perimeter around the vehicle, blasters out and wary of their surroundings. Each has built in communication systems, thus allowing them to communicate with people on the same frequency. As the group waits for their new CO, the person they expected arrives at the scene.

Kaitlyn walked up to the droids, not sure what she was supposed to expect. She had never seen these droids before, but she had a vast technical knowledge, prowess she had mastered in her time on the Brass. And ever since the Republic had Alliance had gone their separate ways, she'd been in a personal debate about where to go. But curiousity overcame her and caused her to wanting to inspect these droids. Now, she could command them and test their abilities first hand.

"Hi, I'm Kaitlyn, I'm here to escort the VIP with you guys to Brybier."

The front droid nods at her, then hands her a comlink, allowing her to maintain communications with them if separated. The next 5 minutes were basic manual reading, letting Kaitlyn know the specs of the droids and how to control them. Another 5 were spent to inform her of basic tactical maneuvers, using the droids to their best potential. Unlike the standard B1's these OOM Class Battle Droids were versatile and responded well to their commands, allowing them to even be utilized as special ops teams.

"The lead is yours, commander."

Kaytlin packed up her new stuff and held the E-5 Blaster in her hands, as she kept close to the squad command droid, ordering the team to form a diamond position around the vehicle. The droids followed the command perfectly, making an almost mathematically perfect diamond around their protectorate. As they marched on, she could hear the sounds of animals that scurried away, sometimes stood their ground, watching while growling as the convoy passed. In case of the latter, Kaitlyn had 2 droids fire a duo of warning shots into trees to keep them away and prevent an attack.

Advisement: Warning shots fired by Droids attract attention of local robbers.

The droids followed their seemingly fearless leader by the letter, not a single shot missing a tree. Not that hitting non-moving trees was much of a challenge, but regardless, any rookie trooper could have missed. The group ad cleared half of their path since link up, making good time.

She fell back for a minute, following the side of the vehicle, as she looked who was inside. She may have had to do that at the start, but she completely forgot, and was more interested in the droids than the passenger anyway. Looked like a Senator, with important looking documents around the inside of the vehicle. Whatever paperwork they could be trying to do would mostly be a disaster, due to the rough terrain.

She jogged back up to the command droid, asking them for a scan of the area. As the droid got ready scanning gear, Kaitlyn called the convoy to a squad, having one of the droids explain and reassure the passenger of their actions.

Engagement: Local cartel members have a lock on the convoy.

The droids kept their diamond formation while the command droid fired up the sensor machine upon Kaitlyn's orders. But before they could even do their initial sensor sweep, a shot was heard from somewhere in the forest, east side. It didn't sound like blaster fire, but primitive, like a cycler rifle, using projectile ammo. The shot hit its mark, as the most right droid staggered, while sparks came from a minor hole in its chassis, before it fell over and shut down. All other droids raised their blasters but awaited command of Kaitlyn, unable to take initiative themselves.

Unknown amount of hostiles.

It took Kaitlyn a second to realize what happened, but once she did, she ordered all droids to lie down at their positions and try to get a lock. While she covered the command droid running the scan, the rest opened fire at the general direction the shot came from. Maybe the scan could provide them with intel on the numbers.

Scan: 10/10, successful scan, full read out. 2 hostiles identified. 1 NPC Droid guaranteed kill.

The command droid managed to do his scan to perfection, identifying the enemies and getting an exact fix on their location. Adapting to the now open knowledge, the droids adjusting their firing pattern and pinned down the two cartel members. The rear guard of the convoy got a lock on one of the members and took the shot, eliminating one hostile.

With the sole cartel member still out there, Kaitlyn gave the order for the rear guard of 3 to move up north east, to flank him, while continuing fire from the center of the convoy with the rest of the group. Once in place, the rear guard unleashed a volley of fire onto the position of the last enemy.

The droids followed their order, the rear guard of 3 units slowly moving north west to their designated location. The hostile unit seemed oblivious to this, as he kept firing loose shots at the vehicle in the center of the convoy. As the 3 droids came into position, they opened their fire onto the last Cartel member.

With the flanking maneuver having failed, Kaitlyn looked through the small scope on the rifle, waiting for him to pop his head out from behind the tree. When he did to take a shot, she fired in the good hopes it would be a hit.

The cartel member waited and listened to the shots, finding the window to strike in. When the window was open, he popped his head out and took aim, only to receive fire.

As the last of the two enemies went down, Kaitlyn recalled the droids to set their perimeter back up. Along with that, she gave the order to retrieve the two fallen droids. They may yet be repaired, with some luck. And if not, they still had parts useful for the construction of more, or simply as spares for damaged droids. As the team salvaged the two droids and loaded them up onto the vehicle, the convoy moved further.

Convoy cleared the Salynean Forest and links up with an armored escort near the edge of the woods. Kaitlyn is relieved of duty and asked to accompany them for a debriefing.
