Meetings and misunderstanding

Jing's eyes snapped open. Yesterday's shortcomings would not let him have any sleep. Insomnia and a nightmare had taken their toll as Jing got out of bed. He quickly dressed for the day in the apartment the Order had provided. At least he had that much. He would have to check the downtown area of Arakai today. Look into shops and other places. Next was the slums and then the outskirts. Hopefully by then Kid will have gotten another mission and he could search a new area. Jing massaged his temples as he felt a headache coming on. No time to rest, he had a job to do.

Now what? No one aside from the order knew he was here. He doubted it was an enemy but looked through the spy hole just in case. He quickly opened the door once he saw who it was.

"What are you doing here?"

Jing took the letter and opened it. Maybe another mission or helpful details for his mission. His eye narrowed marginally as he read the message detailing how Carmen would be his bodyguard. He glanced up to look at Carmen. he mentally sighed, at least he wouldn't have to play babysitter. She could handle herself. Jing widened the door and stepped back into the apartment.

"Come in we need to talk."

Jing sat down across from her. Questions danced in his mind but starting slow would be the best.

"How much do you know about the ramifications of my mission?"

Jing nodded. At least she knew the basics no matter how small. Jing chuckled slightly at the irony. If he had waited in the temple for a bit longer they could of cleared this mess up a day ago.

"So this is what got assigned to you. Are you comfortable with this mission? We will be working with each other continuously."

She seems professional enough so I am hardly worried but if there is anything that could compromise the mission...

Jing rolled his eye. What did she take him for? I teenage human? What he was concerned about was how she would deal with the other races. They would encounter several of them if they were to perform the mission correctly.

"If your worried about privacy then there is no need to worry. What I am asking is how do you deal with other races."

Razor sharp and to the point admirable. If she keep her head then there would hardly be a problem. Still did she want the job? Following orders and wholeheartedly wanting to complete the job where two different things.

"This is a bit personal, but do you want to do this mission? I assure you can take care of myself. If you want I can contact the order to give you different job."

Jing eyes flashed with rage before he crushed it. He would admit he had hardly expected it but didn't mean he had no back-up plan. He sighed and resigned himself. No need to argue with an ally. He leaned back into his chair.

"I see, you are dedicated to your mission then. Do you have anything you want to know about me then? If are going to be a team we need to know the basics about each other. I know enough about you, anything you would like to know?"

Switches attitudes on a dime. Will I be able to keep up? Jing seriously regretted not learning about the human psych.

"I was planning to head out into the city but I figured since you showed up I might as well ask. Do you know anything about Millennium?"

On a dime indeed... Jing glared back.

"Bodyguard or not you are still viable source of information. Just because you didn't SAY anything to the council does not mean you do not KNOW anything. Just because the council didn't WRITE anything does not mean you didn't TELL them anything. Humanss, demons and angel all forgot and remember. I simply wanted to confirm that you no new information came up."

Jing fixed his hair and let the tension drain from his body. The first time he had snapped at someone is 125 years. He sighed. Maybe it was the stress from yesterday and lack of sleep piling up? No he had never snapped even after 2 straight days of work. Was it from dealing with a human? Again the thought was denied with evidence of past experiences. A thought struck him, maybe it was her that had riled him up. Jing barely contained the grin that broke out on his face. Yes, that MUST be it. Carmen riled him up with her looks and her charm. The idea was so funny he almost laughed. Jing opened his eyes and looked around the room. Whatever the reason, he had acted childish and that was uncalled for. Carmen was a professional and he would treat her as such.

What to do next? Now that his bodyguard was settling in he still needed to explore the city. Maybe they could got to a cafe. Well, once Kid got another... KID! He had forgotten to inform Carmen about the hunter he had allied with. The information was not extremely important but he would rather avoid surprises down the line. Well he would do so during their walk in the city and he would call Kid later and tell him about his bodyguard. Hopefully he would be fine with it. Now he simply needed to wait for her to be ready.

Jing shrugged. No one was gonna talk and it wasn't like there were actually dating.

"Alright, that sounds fine. I need to tell you something as we go to the city."

Jing walked to the door and opened it, walking outside.
