Rosaline's Time Alone

Rosaline tended to Lysandra's grave. She smiled softly, remembering the time spent with her as an infant, then the time when she had finally come back into her life. "There you go dear. I wish I could have seen you more..." With that, she stood up, and walked until she stood at Arakai's ruins, the city her late daughter served.

A couple yards ahead of her, Riven leaned against the rubble, back turned to Rosaline. The outer ring of the city had been mostly unscathed, but regardless the devastation was still very much visible. She'd been partially responsible for it. Not first hand, but through what she'd done to Yasuo. As such she also felt partially responsible for Lysandra's death. Something she couldn't shake off.

Rosaline paid hardly any attention to Riven, passing her by as she walked further into the city. Perhaps she could find some former belongings of Lysandra's in the ruins. It would be hard to find...considering she had no clue where was where in the ruins, nor remembered where Lysandra had lived.

Riven looked up at the woman as she passed her. "Wouldn't go in if I were you. Still quite some collapse danger around there. Pendragon's relief efforts should send the heavy equipment soon, I'm guessing."

She turned to face her. "I'm quite capable of myself...I may be old, but I'm not weak." She looked out towards the town proper.

"Never said you were. but I don't think strong willed beats a building collapsing on top of you. But, go right ahead." She held her hands together, her thumb rubbing across the smooth metal of the ring Yasuo had given her. Hard to believe that the man whose life she'd ruined now was engaged to her.

She nodded. "Would you be willing to escort me to the former residential district? I'm likely to search for my daughter's possessions, if any survived the bombing." She watched Riven.

"Can't say I'm any more useful against buildings either. If I were you, I'd just wait it out. Stuff that's buried under there won't go anywhere, trust me."

She sighed. "I guess." She sat on a piece of rubble. "So what are you doing here? Part of this 'relief force'?" If she was, she'd be with the people who killed her child.

"No, I'm here on my own. Had to see it myself. I left Pendragon service weeks ago. Right after the bombing here. Couldn't bring myself to work for them anymore. Traitors."

She nodded. Even if she was former...she still had to give her a piece of her mind. "They killed my daughter. Even took her away as an infant..." She couldn't help but be furious now. "...even if you're formerly of them, you can't deny partial responsibility for her passing." She stood up, a bit of electricity emitting from her clenched fists.

"Yeah, and so what? You think I'm proud of what happened? Most of us didn't even know what the hell was going on, you want to have us pay the price for something we were not aware of? If suddenly someone came to you saying your daughter killed thousands, and they wanted you to pay for it, you think that'd be fair? Get a hold of yourself, I didn't like it that so many people died here. I never asked for it and that, maybe if you'd listened, is why I left the government."

She calmed down a little. "She...did send people to their demise..." She looked away. "...that's what brought her back to me after twenty years." She sat back down. "I apologize for that...old grudges die hard."

"Yeah, well, you have to let go. God, the man I'm with had his life ruined thanks to what I did to him. Not intentionally, but indirectly. Now look at us." She held her hand up with the ring on it.

She saw the ring, and shook away tears. "I wish I could have seen her wedding day...I hope you and he are happy together. If I had my old dress, I'd give it to you...but it's been lost for twenty years now."

"Well, don't really have to. We're going according to his traditions, not what you're used to out here. But thanks for the offer anyway." She had no idea what their customs were anyway. She'd figure it out, in time. "But, yeah, I've lost friends in the struggle, too. It's not easy."

"Alright." She sat, waiting for this 'relief force' the woman had mentioned. "Did you know my daughter by chance, seeing as you worked for the same people she did?"

"I don't know, what's her name, what was her work? I mean, didn't know every single person in the whole Pendragon military, so."

"She said she was a grunt in the APU, whatever that is...and her name was Lysandra. I don't know what last name she was given...but she probably didn't share mine." She looked up to the sky, hoping for some sign of the force.

"Oh, I remember Lysandra. That's one of the friends I lost, too. So you're her mom then. I was hoping I'd get to meet you, I had some things to talk about her with you. But, now, I don't really know what to say."

"Yes, I am her mother...but I didn't raise her, some other parents did. I was locked up and experimented on for a while. Compliments of your former government..." She sighed. "...what did you want to tell me, now that you've met her mother?"

"Well, I didn't spend that much time with her. She got a big name through out corps back when she unraveled the one behind the attacks and found his location. And I got to talk with her, we went up to the bar, she got drunk. You know how it goes sometimes. It was fun, but. Not that much we did."

"Drunk...she was an alcoholic?" She looked at Riven again. "Please tell me she wasn't..."

"God no. But she wasn't really good with it, either. Couldn't stand a drop. Intolerabele as hell to it. I'll say, she was weird in her way. Maybe a little ok weird, but. Weird nonetheless."
