Infirmary for Cad

"Well, like I said, if you can stomach it, fledgling, you're welcome to stay with your mother through her tests." *He goes to get the medicine that would put Cad asleep, and hands Cad the medicine with some water.* "Okay?"

"I'm doing this for her, I'm staying." She stayed firmly on the chair she was in.

"Okay. Now, she'll start to feel drowsy, and it will seem like she's drunk, but that's the medicine taking effect. When she's firmly asleep, page for me. I'll go make arrangements for her tests. The guy will have to wait in the lobby, though. I'm only granting you the exception."

She nodded, and went outside, to explain Gyan what would go on, while the medicine was working on Cad.

*Cad took the medicine, and waited.*

Amber came back in, and having told Gyan to go get some things for them from the market, having given him some of Cads money, she sat down next to the bed again.

*Cad just laid down, drowsy.*

She was sitting beside Cad, and had her hand on Cads. She whispered her words. "Everything'll be fine, Cad. We need each other, so we can't lose you."

*Cad looked at Amber, a glazed look in her eyes. She spoke in a slurred, almost drunken voice.* "I never lost anything...except for my manhood...all those years ago..."

"You're fine, just go to sleep. It'll be all right soon again."

"I doubt it...you can't undo what I did..."

"Shhh, just go to sleep. It'll be all right."

*Cad rambled on for a while, then was out cold.*

Amber waited inside for the doctors to return.

*The doctor came in with a gurney, along with a few others, one of which placed Cad on it. Another told Amber to wait in the lobby, no family members were allowed in with her*

"I was allowed to stay here. I can handle it." She wasn't gonna leave Cad alone. she'd sit this out, able to stand it or not.

*They allowed Amber to follow them into the operating room, where they started to prep Cad for her tests. She was stripped of her dress, bra, and panties, and was garbed in a hospital gown. They handed her clothes to Amber.*

Amber folded everything to just one simple ball, and used it as a pillow to hold. The smell of it reminded her of every time she was with Cad, all the good times, and the less good times.

*They started examining Cad's wings, the wound on one of them, which had come open, was infected, and they started dressing and cleaning it. While that was going on, they also started to examine the other wing, making an incision at the top of it, where all the bones and muscles were.*

She couldn't look, but kept her eyes fixed on Cads feet. She knew it'd all be all right again. It had to be.

*After they were done, they carefully brought Cad around to her front, with her wings now stitched up. They proceeded to examine her entire body, while someone brought an X-ray machine into the room.*

Amber recognized the machine from hospital movies, but didn't know they had those in real as well. She looked at how they hooked it up to the power grid.

*They used it to examine the bones in her wings, as well as her chest, arms, and legs.*

She wanted to ask how it was, what they could see, if anything was wrong, and many more things, but she kept her mouth shut, afraid it might disturb their work.

*They brought some syringes, and drew a few vials of Cad's blood for analysis.*
