Infirmary for Cad

It's in your body to stay there. She looked at how they drew her blood, and thought how they would use it.

*They did several more tests on Cad's body, some of which would have been very uncomfortable or even painful, were Cad awake during the procedures, then they were done.*

Amber had lived through it all, and even though she didn't want to at times, seen everything happen. She was feeling a bit ill now, but she thought she had to keep strong, for Cad.

*The doctor came over to Amber, and placed a hand on her shoulder.* "You feeling alright, fledgling?"

"I'm all right, but I'm not a fledgling. Stop calling me like I'm a child, I've grown up in the Human World." She was a bit agitated over being called a kid.

"What do you want to be called then? Your wings tell me you're a young angel, and young angels shouldn't have seen what you saw during the procedures."

"I just told you, I grew up as a Human. I've done some work as administration service in there, and I learned my entire life over there, my parents had brought me there. So, I've learned everything in their way, and on their speed, where you are mature on 25 year old."

"That's in human years...we angels measure things in longer spans. 25 years in our time is not long enough to be called an adult."

"But you Angels do everything in an easy tempo as well. I learned everything in a span of 5 to 6 years. Anyway, how's she doing, and what's wrong with her?"

"She's fine, one of her wings had severe bone fractures, the other had a large, infected gash, she had other bones broken in many places, especially her legs. No other problems arose, but with her having taken a direct hit from a human knightmare...there's no telling what she may develop later on..."

"She'll be herer until she's healed, right?"

"She'll stay here overnight, then we'll send her home with instructions for her aftercare. You're her daughter, right? You'll need to take care of her for quite some time, when we release her."

"I'll do my best. My fiancee will do the same, we'll do what you say, as long as she'll be fine."

"She may be fine now, but it's uncertain how that blast will have affected her in the long term. She's already old enough, that makes things even more unpredictable. She could pass away tomorrow, for all we know, or she could live till her 5000th birthday, who knows?"

"She'll be fine. I'm sure of it. She promised." Tears were welling up in her eyes, as she looked at Cad from where she was standing.

"Dear, promises can never prevent one's demise. She may promise you something, but if she goes, it was her time, and she can't keep her promise to you anymore."

She held her hands against her ears. "Shut up, she promised!" She fell on her knees, knowing what he said was true, but still feeling that she'd make it, because she would still learn her to fly, she'd learn her a lot more things.

"I speak the truth, fledgling, when I say this: She can't keep all her promises she made to you, if she passes away. She may say she's okay, but she isn't. Her life is in an unpredictable state, even if she doesn't know it."

"Leave it alone ... She'll be all right. I know she will ... " Tears had started flowing down her cheeks, and Gyan still hadn't returned from the groceries.

"Believe it or not, that's your choice. If she passes away, in front of you, you'll believe what I told you. Now, go to her, we'll let you spend a few moments with her, before we take her to where she'll be staying overnight."

She already hated these places, and knew now why Cad had wanted not to come here. She got up, and walked up to Cad, putting her hand on Cads. "Hey."

*Cad was still asleep from the anesthetics. She made no notion that she heard Amber.*

"We'll get through this. I promise you. I'm not letting you leave me, not this soon."

*Cad slept, still under anesthetic.*

"I'll be back again when you're discharged. Gyan is walking around alone in the Market now, so I'll have to find ihm I'll be back as soon as I can." She gave Cad a kiss on her cheek, and stood up.
